On February 1, Maine Farm Service Agency (FSA) held a public meeting at the Knox-Lincoln Cooperative Extension to take public comment on the proposed consolidation of the Knox-Lincoln FSA office with the Kennebec FSA office and closure of the Warren Service Center.
A number of concerned Knox and Lincoln County producers and citizens attended to express support for USDA maintaining a local presence for the local community. Currently, neither the Knox-Lincoln FSA nor the Knox-Lincoln Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offices in Warren are being staffed. FSA is serving Knox-Lincoln producers from the Kennebec office; NRCS is serving Knox producers from Waldo and Lincoln producers from Kennebec. The Conservation District, formerly co-located with our historic partner, NRCS, now must find a new home and adapt to our cooperators being served from disparate locations.
