Adult Education and Outreach

Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District presents a variety of programs throughout the year for landowners and landusers.
Workshops as diverse as conservation landscaping, forming a road association, fruit tree pruning, pond construction, and forestry management are offered at sites in Knox and Lincoln counties.

Tree Pruning Demonstration
Saturday, May 19 at 10 am
Village Cemetery, Thomaston (map)
Pete Lammert is demonstrating the pruning of hardwoods and weeping flowering crabapples! This demonstration will focus on:
- Proper tool use
- Pruning techniques to remove co-dominant hardwood leaders & lateral branches for a balanced crown
- Other problems with trees that have been in the ground for 8-10 years
Lammert is the Thomaston Tree Warden and cemetery sexton as well as being a licensed Maine Forester and Arborist. The cemetery is located off Route 1 in Thomaston between Erin and Dwight St (map).

Planning for a Successful Timber Harvest
Tuesday, June 5 from 9am to noon
Bremen
Join Morten Moesswilde, District Forest with the Maine Forest Service, to discuss the steps in planning for timber harvests, such as long-range forest management plans, hiring foresters, primary considerations for harvest operations, finding a logger, and contracts. Several “on the ground” aspects of harvest planning will be discussed during a woods walk on Steve and Jo Laurich's woodlot.
This program has been co-organized by Pemaquid Watershed Association and Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District.
